Teams of three senior engineering students propose solutions to client sponsors.
NORTHAMPTON, MA - April 28, 2018 - Picker Engineering Program senior, Fereshta Noori (Smith 2018) presented, “Design of Bank Protection Alternatives for the Mill River Greenway in Haydenville, MA” to the Williamsburg Mill River Greenway Committee and members of the Smith College community at a celebratory showcase of collaborative projects from the Smith College Engineering Design Clinic.
Design Clinic is a two-semester applied design experience for senior engineering students at Smith College with real projects for real clients. Client benefits from Design Clinic include:
Increased staffing on an existing, postponed or prospective project
Collaboratation with a team of talented, motivated women engineers at the nation’s first ABET-accredited engineering program at a women’s college
All intellectual property affiliated with the project
Design Clinic teams of three or four students work under the guidance of a faculty adviser and one or more technical liaisons from sponsoring organizations for the equivalent of 800 to 1,000 person hours.
Technical liaisons are an integral component in the Design Clinic. Liaisons possess the relevant technical background, have access to senior technical and management people in their firms and to spend an average of 1-2 hours weekly working with students.
