Students may choose from among ten new employers partnering with The Initiative to provide summer internship opportunities in Afghanistan.
PROVIDENCE, RI, Saturday, March 24, 2018 - The Initiative To Educate Afghan Women is pleased to announce that ten new partners have joined a growing list of organizations eager to employ students of its US Undergraduate Program as part of its Summer Internship in Afghanistan Program. Sixteen top international and local Afghan NGOs remain on its returning active opportunities list.
“We are very grateful to our US and Afghanistan based Advisory Board members and friends who helped connect The Initiative and its students to these opportunities,” said Executive Director Christian Wistehuff, adding, “we are also encouraged by the eagerness of these wonderful organizations to hire women in meaningful summer opportunities.”
Notable among The Initiative’s new Summer Internship in Afghanistan Program partners is Qara Consulting, LLC, a dynamic and growing Afghanistan-based firm serving private and public sector organizations. Qara offers the assessments, advice, implementation support, strategy and training services that drive critical decision-making, achieve mandate milestones, and solve pressing problems. Qara’s market access and viable professional networks, responsive management and standard working environment allow them to excel across a variety of growing industries in Afghanistan and the region.
Another notable new partner is the Teach for Afghanistan Organization which is working to eradicate educational inequity in Afghanistan by creating a movement of leaders who believe each and every student can reach her highest potential. Teach for Afghanistan is a partner organization of Teach For All, a global network of 46 independent partner organizations.
Returning partners to the Summer Internship in Afghanistan program include the Enabled Children Initiative, an independent non-profit organization founded by Lael Mohib, wife of His Excellency Ambassador Hamdullah Mohib, Afghanistan's ambassador to the United States. Enabled Children Initiative supports orphaned and abandoned disabled children, or those at risk of being abandoned, in Afghanistan. They work to improve the children’s quality of life and help them reach their full potential by providing comprehensive residential services to support disabled orphans in one private care homes in Kabul, Allahuddin, and Tahia Maskan.
Also returning to this summer is Turquoise Mountain, which works under the auspices of HRH Prince of Wales Charitable Trusts and in partnership with USAID | Afghanistan and the US-Afghan Women’s Council. Turquoise mountain is regenerating historic areas, reviving Afghan traditional arts and architecture, creating jobs, skills and a renewed sense of pride for Afghan men and women. Students of The Initiative may work in development areas of business, marketing and sales, management and operations, creative core in strategic planning and media and communications.
