Upcoming Event: The New Generation of Afghan Women Leaders - Perspectives from Kabul and the International Community with Adela Raz and Anne Meskanen

Adela Raz (Simmons 20018 | Tufts Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy 2010) of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan will join Anne Meskanen of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland to celebrate International Women's Day with an interactive discussion on the new generation of Afghan women leaders organized by the Ambassador of Finland to the United States, Kirsti Kauppi, Ambassador of Afghanistan to the United States, Hamdullah Mohib, Mrs. Lael Mohib, and the US-Afghan Women's Council.

Afghan Deputy Foreign Minister for Economic Affairs Adela Raz will share her insights into the role that young women leaders of her generation are playing in government, business, civil society in Afghanistan today, and progress and challenges that exist to that end. Finnish Ambassador-at-Large for Global Women's Issues and Gender Equality Anne Meskanen, the former Finnish Ambassador to Afghanistan, will in turn offer the international community's perspective on how the new generation can help improve the situation of women and girls in conflict situations, address violence against women and ensure women's economic and social rights in post-conflict situations.


The event will also feature photographs from the the acclaimed international exhibition, Voices on the Rise: Afghan Women Making the News, which depicts courageous Afghan women working to change their society across all sectors in the face of great adversity. 


The discussion will be followed by a reception.
