Marzia Nawrozi Completes Master’s Degree at George Mason University

Marzia Nawrozi (Meredith 2013) graduated from George Mason University today with a Master of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies with a concentration in Women and Gender Studies. Shortly before graduation, she shared her story online with George Mason University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences.

In her interview, Marzia described her journey to George Mason University, why she chose her course of study and what she took away from her time at Mason. Through her graduate studies, Marzia broadened and deepened her knowledge of women and gender as well as social justice and human rights issues around the world as she perfected her academic research and writing skills.

For her final research project, Marzia wrote an auto-ethnography about the power storytelling has to effect positive change in Afghan women’s lives. “By incorporating the stories of myself and my mother, I told stories of thousands of Afghan women whose voices have been silenced.” As a regular contributor to Ms. Magazine, the Afghan Women’s Writing Project, Free Women’s Writers and many other publications in and outside Afghanistan, Marzia has abundant evidence of her thesis - and her impact on Afghan women's lives.
