A couple of weeks ago, I found myself sitting
around a table, in Sea Island, Ga., with Laura
Bush, British first lady Cherie Blair, French
first lady Bernadette Chirac, Russian first
lady Lyudmila Putin and Turkish first lady
Amine Erdogan. I had been invited to speak
to the wives of some of the world's most powerful
leaders about how we could further the well-being
of women in Afghanistan and Iraq, especially
through health and education initiatives...More> |

Fundraising Breakfast and Board Meeting in D.C.
IEAW Board members living in the Washington, D.C. area hosted a fundraising breakfast in Georgetown featuring editor and columnist for the Washington Post, David Ignatius, and IEAW students on Monday, April 12, 2010 prior to the biannual Board Meeting.
Recently returned from a journey to Kandahar Province in Afghanistan, accompanied by Admiral Mike Mullen, Ignatius stated that the situation of educating the women of Afghanistan is one of the great causes to support today. Ignatius felt that the highest priority problem in the country is corruption and that the U.S. must stay engaged with local people in order to insure that Afghanistan becomes a modern and secure country.
Prior to this breakfast, and a full and successful day of active planning and discussions at the offices of Gensler Architecture, advisory board members, staff, and students enjoyed an evening filled with fellowship and food. The students prepared a delicious Afghan dinner at the home of Board member Nora Cameron.
